"They are really amazing. They are filled with lots of good books." Miley Darling

"People can read in here when you don't want to play." Fearne Alger

In the words of Dr Seuss,
"The more that your read the more things you will know.
The more that you learn the more places you'll go!"

At Roe Farm we recognise the importance of instilling a love of reading and books from the

moment pupils join our school.  We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised to ensure a

consistent approach to the teaching of phonics throughout the school.

To support the application of phonics and reading skills, pupils have access to matched

Little Wandle reading books and the Oxford Reading Tree scheme. Our reading scheme was

updated in 2020 and again in 2021 to ensure that all children have the opportunity to read fluently

and  confidently, whatever their age and stage of reading. We also provide a wealth of other books

in classrooms and within our dedicated school library.

Reading skills are taught and practised in three-weekly Whole Class Reading sessions from

Year 3-6. Texts in these sessions support our learning in Talk for Writing and vice-versa, allowing

us to deepen our understanding.

"I like being able to sit down and relax with a book." Ethan French

"The books are cool and I LOVE reading!" Alaya Rose

"It's good that we don't just have fiction - we have non-fiction too." Anna Zawierucha

"The reading sheds are good. I've brought my own library book out to read." Luke Bowman
