History

EYFS

The importance of history in the curriculum can be summarised in a famous quote by David McCullough and paraphrased by many others:

“How can we know who we are and where we are going if we don't know anything about where we have come from and what we have been through, the courage shown, the costs paid, to be where we are?”

At Roe Farm we have adopted the Chris Quigley concept lead approach to structure our history curriculum.  This is based around four threshold concepts:

   - Investigate and interpret the past

   - Build and overview of world history

   - Understand chronology

   - Communicate historically

We are fortunate to be based close to the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site which features many examples of industrial revolution development, as well as other sites of historical importance dating back hundreds and in some cases thousands of years.
